Feeding Philosophies is a privately owned pediatric nutrition counseling business founded in 2003 by registered dietitian and internationally board-certified lactation consultant, Melanie R. Silverman MS, RD, IBCLC.

Prior to founding Feeding Philosophies, Melanie spent over seven years in clinical practice at one of the top ranked hospitals in the United States, The University of Chicago Hospitals. As one of the hospital's senior most dietitians, she specialized in pediatric nutritional care, servicing the neonatal intensive care units, adult and pediatric burn units and various outpatient clinics. She was also responsible for lectures to interns, residents and fellows in preparation for their respective areas of medical practice.

Melanie has published numerous articles on the importance of breastfeeding. She has been invited to speak at national nutrition and medical conferences and co-authored a nutrition chapter in a leading pediatric gastroenterology textbook. She was recognized several times for her dietetic accomplishments by both the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois.

Melanie received her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and Spanish from Indiana University. She completed her master's degree and dietetic internship from Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Currently, Melanie serves as a member of The American Dietetic Association, Pediatric Nutrition Practice Group, Vegetarian Nutrition Practice Group and Entrepreneur Practice Group and is an active member of the International Lactation Consultant Association.
