Melanie R. Silverman MS, RD, IBCLC is the founder of Feeding Philosophies, a
privately owned pediatric nutrition counseling business since 2003. Melanie
is a registered dietitian (RD) and a board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC).
Her consulting practice is based in Laguna Beach, California,
but provides pediatric nutrition and lactation services nationwide.
Melanie
spent seven years in clinical practice at The University of Chicago
Medical Center, one of the top ranked hospitals in
the United States, where she specialized in pediatric nutritional care,
servicing the neonatal intensive care units, pediatric
intensive care unit, burn unit, and high risk follow-up clinic. She was
also responsible for nutrition education to medical residents and fellows, while serving as an adjunct
faculty member at Loyola University Chicago instructing
undergraduate nutrition majors in clinical nutrition, food science and
professional development courses.
Melanie has published numerous articles on the importance of breastfeeding, food
allergies and picky eaters and is a frequently sought out speaker
having lectured at national events for the American Society
for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition and March of Dimes.
Melanie received her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and Spanish from Indiana University and a
Master's degree in Clinical Nutrition from Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center.
Currently, Melanie serves as a member of The American Dietetic
Association, Pediatric Nutrition Practice Group, Vegetarian Nutrition Practice Group
and Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine and is an active
member of the International Lactation Consultant Association. She is a
private practice preceptor for various dietetic internship programs around the country.
